Clark Park Youth Soccer: Fall Registration

Registration is open for the fall season of Clark Park Youth Soccer! Sponsored by Friends of Clark Park, this is a family-friendly recreational program for children ages 5-11.  Find more information, and registration links on our Youth Soccer page.  Teams are filling up quickly for the 5-7 age group, but we have a lot of space still for children ages 8 to 11!

We are also seeking volunteer coaches for the fall soccer season!  Parents, students, neighbors, soccer enthusiasts — we need energy, enthusiasm and patience; if you have some soccer skills, that’s great too!  Email clarkparksoccer@yahoo.com for more information.

Help Us Kick Off Project Green

We want to keep the landscape in Clark Park beautiful. That is why the Friends of Clark Park is launching Project Green in 2018 which is focused on sprucing up the gardens throughout the park. The centerpiece of this program is a volunteer initiative where we are asking for gardeners to manage smaller plots throughout the park.

Our goal is to make this program as easy as possible for people to participate. That is why we are looking for two types of volunteers: leaders who can really be the “owners” of their plots for the season and general volunteers who want to help out, but may not be able to make a full commitment. Our leaders will be people who love to garden and want to take charge of an area. General volunteers will be assigned to different teams and will be contacted when the “owners” are looking for help. Plants and plans will be provided so no experience or contributions are necessary.

This program will be kicking off this spring with our first major work day coinciding with Philadelphia Parks and Recreation’s Love Your Park Day on May 12th. If you are interested in volunteering please either reach out to Volunteer@friendsofclarkpark.org to sign up or attend an information session at the start of our Member Meeting on April 23rd,  7:00 pm – 8:30 pm Rosenberger 102, USciences for more information.

Youth Soccer Registration – Don’t Miss Out!

We may be bracing for a blizzard, but we’re less than two weeks away from the start of the spring season of Clark Park Youth Soccer. Registrations are coming in quickly — we still have plenty of room for children ages 8 to 11, but teams for ages 5 to 7 are filling up fast.  Don’t miss out!  Register online, or download a registration form to mail in from our Youth Soccer page.

If finances are a problem, please contact clarkparksoccer@yahoo.com — because of generous donations to our “soccership” fund, we can help!

Registration Open: Clark Park Youth Soccer

Registration is now underway for the fall season of Clark Park Youth Soccer. This Friends of Clark Park-sponsored program — now in it’s 20th year — is a family-friendly, non-competitive program for children ages 5 to 11. The program takes place in the Clark Park “Bowl” on Saturdays, 10:30 to Noon for ages 5 to 7, and Noon to 1:30 for ages 8 to 11. Volunteer coaches provide instruction on the basic skills of soccer, with scrimmage games between teams in each age group; children of any ability are encouraged to join in.

The soccer program is very popular, drawing families from the neighborhood and all around the city; families are urged to register early to ensure that there is space available for their children. The Fall season will begin on Saturday, September 24th and continue through November 19th. Visit our soccer page for registration links, details about the program and costs, including information about assistance available for families with financial need. Please contact clarkparksoccer@yahoo.com with any questions, or if you’re interested in volunteering.

Coming up soon in Clark Park….

As spring fades into summer, Clark Park invites leisurely hanging out. It’s fun to enjoy the tranquility of the scene and to watch fellow West Philadelphians go about their pleasant (and sometimes colorful) ways.

T-0594-673But there are lively organized activities coming up soon as well.

This Saturday, may 30, the Philadelphia Pétanque Tournament will hold forth in the Central Plaza of the North Park from 10 am to 4 pm. Teams will compete all day long in this unique French bowling game, which involves tossing, not rolling, steel balls toward a puck. It’s easy to play — although hard to play well. And it can be mesmerizing to watch.

T-0413-661On Saturday, Jun 13, the Uhuru People’s Fleamarket will be held in the Middle Park, at 43rd & Chester. Browsers enjoy poking through its aisles looking for items that pique their ciuriosity or things they never knew they needed until that moment. The fleamarket runs from 9 am to 5 pm.

On saturday, Jun 20, the Clark Park Music & Arts Solstice Festival will continue its tradition of more than 40 years in the Bowl. A diverse cross-section of up-and-coming musical acts will show what the Philly music scene is capapble of! A wide variety of fine artists and craftsmen will display their wares.
