One Response to Trees

  1. Ed Deegan says:

    15 April 2011

This is an offer of a free “Swamp White Oak” (Quercus bicolor) sapling.

I’m a long-time resident at Warren House Condominium,
1003-1005 S. 46th Street, and an officer of the condo association there.

One of our owners recently took advantage of a Penn-sponsored
tree-canopy-enhancement program offering free shade-tree saplings
to Penn employees who live in West Phila.

Unfortunately, in the property-description part of the application, she
incorrectly characterized our building’s yard as “large”. As a result,
the sapling they gave her is a “Swamp white oak” (Quercus bicolor), which
will grow to a height of 60 feet or more, with a proportional spread.

We picked up the tree on April 2, but we simply have no place on our
property which would be suitable for such a tree to grow to maturity.
We have inquired about returning it but the tree distributors have not
    responded.

Rather than waste the sapling or plant it in a spot where we know it could not be allowed to grow to maturity, we would like to find a more suitable home for it here in West Phila.delphia.

Would you like to have the sapling for Clark Park? (Height: 55″
from the bottom of its pot to the highest branch, Diameter: about 3/4″-1″)

If you’re interested, please let me know soon. The sapling should be planted ASAP.
