Petanque

The French game of boules, pétanque, is played Sundays at the central plaza in North Park.DSC_0179

Pronounced ‘pay-tonk’, the game originated in Provence, not far from Marseille, in the early 1900s. Related to bocce, horseshoes and lawn bowling, the basic objective is to toss (or roll) a number of palm-sized metal balls (boules) as close as possible to a small wooden target ball (le cochonnet). Players on both teams take turns and the team that ends up closest to the target ball after all the metal balls have been played, wins.

ANYONE AND EVERYONE IS WELCOME TO PLAY. We do so every Sunday from 11a until about 2p or 3p (weather permitting). If you can’t be there the whole time, no problem; feel free to come late and/or leave early.

If you don’t have your own balls/boules, we usually have a few extras to borrow, available first come first serve.
