#GivingTuesdayClarkPark
After giving thanks and getting deals, it’s time to give back! #GivingTuesday is the day to make a difference in your community. And what better way to do that than to make a gift to the Friends of Clark Park? Clark Park reaches the heart and soul of our community, connects us and empowers us to act locally – and the Friends support the park with maintenance, improvements and advocacy. This Tuesday, consider joining and making a financial donation to the Friends of Clark Park. Your contribution will go toward new benches, tree care, garden improvements, and tireless advocacy for West Philadelphia’s most engagingly active green space.

Registration Open: Clark Park Youth Soccer
Registration is now underway for the fall season of Clark Park Youth Soccer. This Friends of Clark Park-sponsored program — now in it’s 20th year — is a family-friendly, non-competitive program for children ages 5 to 11. The program takes place in the Clark Park “Bowl” on Saturdays, 10:30 to Noon for ages 5 to 7, and Noon to 1:30 for ages 8 to 11. Volunteer coaches provide instruction on the basic skills of soccer, with scrimmage games between teams in each age group; children of any ability are encouraged to join in.
The soccer program is very popular, drawing families from the neighborhood and all around the city; families are urged to register early to ensure that there is space available for their children. The Fall season will begin on Saturday, September 24th and continue through November 19th. Visit our soccer page for registration links, details about the program and costs, including information about assistance available for families with financial need. Please contact clarkparksoccer@yahoo.com with any questions, or if you’re interested in volunteering.

West Philly African & Caribbean Multicultural Festival (WestPac Fest)
Palms Solutions, The African Diaspora Global Initiative in collaboration with the Friends of Clark Park (FOCP) and the Mayor’s Commission on African & Caribbean Immigrant Affairs, is hosting the kick off of its annual “West Philly African & Caribbean Multicultural Festival (Westpac Fest)” event on October 17th, 2015, featuring Ethiopia and Mali. The celebration is an opportunity to experience Philadelphia’s vibrant and growing African and Caribbean immigrant population.
The goal of WestPac Fest is to break down the cultural and ethnic barriers among communities in West Philly, promote a friendly, and welcoming environment for people of all backgrounds, and together build a place where diversity is recognized and valued.
This year‘s celebration is a tribute to the late Ms. Frances P. Aulston, President and CEO of the West Philadelphia Cultural Alliance and the Paul Robeson House. Among other great achievements, “Ms. Aulston was instrumental in bringing about the preservation of the last residence of Paul Robeson, a legendary artist, scholar, athlete, activist, and humanitarian”.
Join the celebration on Saturday, October 17th from 2 to 6 pm, in Clark Park (North Park “Plaza”)!
