Spring Is Around the Corner and We Would Love Your Help

Warm weather is in the air and Clark Park is starting to fill in with friends and families gearing up to enjoy the first days of spring. It is a great time to hang out in the park, but it is also a key time for the Friends of Clark Park in getting our park ready for another peak season. Each spring volunteers work hard to clean and green the park to make it as beautiful as possible for the neighborhood. This includes taking care of all the gardens, maintaining the park furniture, and cleaning up around the park. This year is no different and your help is needed! We have a number of upcoming events to get the park ready for the season:

  • Gardening & Pizza – This Sunday (3/20) meet the Friends Gardening Committee from 3PM – 5PM at the Shed at 45th and Regent for a Spring Planting and Pizza party afterwards! It is a great way to meet the team who takes care of the gardens and can always use extra hands throughout the season.
  • Volunteer Clean Up Day – Saturday April 2nd from 10AM – 12PM will be our first big park cleanup day of the season. There will be a variety of activities for all ages to help out. Meet us at the Shed at 45th and Regent to help clean up the park!
  • Volunteer Clean Up Day – On Saturday April 16th from 10AM – 12:30PM we will have a second clean up event. If you can’t join un on 4/2 (or even if you can) it is another opportunity to help clean up the park this spring.

All these events are fun for the whole family and a great way to spend time outside in the park this spring. For any questions please reach out to Volunteer@friendsofclarkpark.org for more information.

Annual Members Meeting November 8th

It is that time of year again when the last flowers are fading, the trees are losing their leaves and coats and hats are making their first appearances. For Friends of Clark Park that means that it is time for our Fall Public Meeting! Please join us on Monday, November 8th at 7PM at Griffith Hall on the University of the Sciences campus. It is right across from the southern corner of the park at 601 S 43rd Street. Please note masks are required on the University of Sciences campus.

Our annual meeting is always a great time to discuss ongoing issues with the park. We will provide a update on some of the latest events and upcoming changes. We will also be holding our annual election for our board of directors. Whether you would like to get more involved in the University City community or you are just curious about the latest goings on in Clark Park all are welcome.

We hope to see you there!

Celebrating 29 Years of Bark in the Park

On Saturday, October 9, Clark “B” Park was the site about 25 canine contests, sponsored by the Friends of Clark Park.  Competition was very spirited, among both dogs and owners.  Many thanks go to judges Dr. David Littlejohn of O’Neal Animal Hospital, Jonathan Marcus, Carol Coccagna, and to D.L. Wormley Casson who prepared the prize bags of doggie kibble.  Each contest winner also won a canine toy.   A fine time was had by all!

Annual Membership Meeting Postponed to November 8th

It has been a big weekend for the Friends of Clark Park with the return of our annual Party in the Park event. This first fall version of the event was a blast! With a beer garden presented by Dock Street, food from a collection of local vendors, a number of community bands, and activities for the kids it was an event for everyone and attendance was amazing. A huge thank you to the full West Philly community for coming out to support this event which is our core fundraising event for the year.

Unfortunately, throwing such a huge event is a major time commitment from all of the Friends and as a result we will be postponing our annual membership meeting until November 8th. Details of the meeting will follow as the date approaches, but we look forward to seeing you then!

Parktoberfest is This Weekend!

Join the Friends of Clark Park on October 16th from 2-8PM for the 2021 edition of our Party in the Park: Parktoberfest! After a long hiatus, this free annual event returns as a way to celebrate the season in Clark Park with all your friends and neighbors. It is also a great time to meet the team, let us know what you think, and renew your membership. The event will feature a beer garden presented by Dock Street Brewery and food trucks to help meet your cravings. As always, there will be local live music and fun events to keep the whole family entertained!

As always we would like to put out a huge thank you to our sponsors who have made this even possible and supported Friends of Clark Park throughout the year.

Bark in the Park Returns!

Bark in the Park is back Saturday October 9th at 2PM. There will be more than 25 contests, from the tallest dog to curliest tail to fastest runner, best trick, best Halloween costume, and more!  Raffle to win doggie goodies.    Also greet the vet, Dr. David Littlejohn.   Meet near the Bowl at 43rd and Chester — fun for dogs and their human friends.
